'Sesame Street: The Musical' to make world premiere off Broadway
The show will premiere at Theatre Row in September.
We'll tell you how to get to Sesame Street! The classic children's show is being adapted as Sesame Street: The Musical, which will make its world premiere off Broadway on Theatre Row. The show will run for a limited engagement from September 8 to November 27. Opening night is September 22.
Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, Gabrielle, and more beloved Sesame Street characters will appear in the musical alongside special guest stars from Broadway and beyond. Classic songs from Sesame Street will feature in the show, in addition to new songs written for the musical.
The creative team and special guests have yet to be announced.
The show is directed and produced by Jonathan Rockefeller. His production company for family-friendly shows, Rockefeller Productions, also produces the acclaimed Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation with Disney, which is playing an encore engagement at Theatre Row through July 31.
Sesame Street has been on TV since 1969 and continues to air. In that time, the show has won a record 11 Grammy Awards and 214 Emmy Awards, the most of any children's show.
