Shoshana Bean joins 'Mr. Saturday Night' on Broadway; complete cast announced
The musical has also moved its first performance from March 1 to March 29.
Fasten your seat belts, put on your crash helmets, because here she comes — Shoshana Bean! The Wicked and Waitress star will join the cast of the new Broadway musical Mr. Saturday Night, based on the 1992 comedy film of the same name starring Billy Crystal. The musical will begin performances at the Nederlander Theatre on March 29 — rather than the initially announced start date of March 1 — and open on April 27.
Bean will play Susan Young, daughter of aging comedian Buddy Young Jr., played by Crystal in both the film and the upcoming musical. She joins previously announced cast members Randy Graff as Elaine Young, Chasten Harmon as agent Annie Wells, and David Paymer reprising his Academy Award-nominated film role as Stan Yankelman.
The complete cast also includes newly announced members Jordan Gelber, Brian Gonzales, and Mylinda Hull.
Mr. Saturday Night follows Buddy Young Jr. 40 years after his career as a comedian plummeted and he destroyed his relationships with his loved ones in the process. He's about to get one more shot at fame and making amends with his family, if he doesn't let his own self-destructive tendencies get in the way again.
The musical features a book by Crystal, Lowell Ganz, and Babaloo Mandel, who penned the original screenplay; music by Jason Robert Brown, and lyrics by Amanda Green.
