Praise be! The Book of Mormon will celebrate its 5,000th Broadway performance at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre tonight, November 4, 2024.

The satirical, R-rated musical follows two young Mormons who get sent on a mission to a remote Ugandan village. Converting the locals quickly proves challenging — so they have to get a little creative.

The show is co-written by Robert Lopez (Frozen, Avenue Q) and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Parker and Casey Nicholaw co-direct, and Nicholaw also choreographs.

The Book of Mormon began Broadway performances on February 24, 2011, and is now only the 12th show in Broadway history to hit the 5,000-performance mark. Additionally, it is the longest-running musical to ever play the O'Neill and has set ticket sales records at the venue more than 30 times.

When The Book of Mormon opened, it won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. Additionally, the show won five Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical; the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical; the Drama League Award for Best Musical; and four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Musical.

The current Book of Mormon Broadway cast features Kevin Clay as Elder Price, Cody Jamison Strand as Elder Cunningham, Keziah John-Paul as Nabulungi, PJ Adzima as Elder McKinley, and Jacques C. Smith as Mafala Hatimbi.
