'The Jonathan Larson Project' sets Off-Broadway cast
Five Broadway stars will appear in the new musical featuring lesser-known music from the late, award-winning creator of Rent and tick, tick... BOOM!
Complete casting has been set for The Jonathan Larson Project off Broadway, a new musical honoring the titular theatre composer. The 16-week limited run begins performances February 14 ahead of a March 10 opening at the Orpheum Theatre.
The Jonathan Larson Project cast includes Adam Chanler-Berat (Assassins), Taylor Iman Jones (Six), Lauren Marcus (Be More Chill), Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening), and Jason Tam (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert).
As previously announced, the creative team includes director John Simpkins, music supervisor and orchestrator Charlie Rosen, arrangers Rosen and Natalie Tenenbaum, choreographer Byron Easley, and music director Cynthia Meng. Additional creative team members for The Jonathan Larson Project has yet to be announced.
Conceived by Jennifer Ashley Tepper, The Jonathan Larson Project showcases lesser-known work by Jonathan Larson, whose best-known musicals include Rent and tick, tick... BOOM! The show recounts Larson's life as a young artist in New York, and the story is set to more than 20 previously unreleased show tunes, pop songs, and excerpts from full musicals Larson wrote.
These include songs from his unproduced musicals 1984 and Superbia, cut songs from Rent and tick, tick... BOOM!, songs written for revues and the radio, and songs never publicly performed or recorded until now.
