'The Kite Runner' announces full Broadway cast
Performances begin July 6.
Run to see this cast! The full company of The Kite Runner on Broadway has been set. Directed by Giles Croft, the stage adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's novel begins performances at the Hayes Theater July 6 ahead of a July 21 opening.
Leading the cast are Amir Arison as Amir and Faran Tahir as Baba, alongside Amir Malaklou as Assef, Azita Ghanizada as Soraya, Dariush Kashani as Rahim Khan, Houshang Touzie as General Taheri, Eric Sirakian as Hassan/Sohrab, Danish Farooqui as Wali/Doctor, Joe Joseph as Merchant/Russian Soldier, Beejan Land as Kamal/Zaman, Evan Zes as Ali/Farid, and Christine Mirzayan. Demosthenes Chrysan, Dea Julien, Haris Pervaiz, and Alex Purcell serve as understudies. Salar Nader plays the tabla, a percussion instrument, on stage.
The creative team has also been set, including set and costume designer Barney George, lighting designer Charles Balfour, sound designer Drew Baumohl, projection designer William Simpson, composer and music supervisor Jonathan Girling, and movement director Kitty Winter.
Matthew Spangler has adapted Hosseini's The Kite Runner novel for the stage, and his adaptation previously played for two theatre seasons in London's West End. The play begins during Amir's childhood in Afghanistan, when a terrible incident is about to tear him apart from his best friend for good. Decades later, Amir is living in America and learns of a way he can make up for what he did to his friend all those years ago, so he ventures back into war-torn Afghanistan for a chance at redemption.
