Time Stands Still: Christina Ricci to star

Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actress Christina Ricci will make her Broadway debut in Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Donald Margulies' Time Stands Still, when the show resumes performances from 23 Sep 2010 at a Broadway theatre to be announced.

Ricci first rose to fame as the young star of films such as 'The Addams Family,' 'Casper,' and 'Mermaids.' Other movie credits include 'Monster,' 'The Ice Storm' and 'The Opposite of Sex,' for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. Ricci was nominated for an Emmy for her guest appearance in the TV show "Grey's Anatomy."

Directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, Time Stands Still will star original cast members: Laura Linney, Brian d'Arcy James and Eric Bogosian.

Ricci replaces Alicia Silverstone who is unable to continue in the role of 'Mandy' due to previously scheduled commitments.

Time Stands Still, which enjoyed an extended sold-out run at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre this spring, will resume performances on 23 Sep 2010. Tickets for the production will go on sale on 31 May 2010.

The production is on hiatus until the fall to accommodate Linney's commitment to her new Showtime series "The Big C" which is now in production and will premiere 16 Aug 2010.

Time Stands Still opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 28 Jan 2010, following previews from 5 Jan, where it played an extended engagement through to 27 Mar 2010.

The played opened to mostly positive reviews: A flawless ... production (NY Times); Journey holds our interest, destination is disappointing (Backstage); A major... dramatic experience (Record); Smart, stylish, timely (AP).

The production was recently honored with two Tony Award nominations: Best Play and Best Leading Actress in a Play (Laura Linney).

Time Stands Still: Are we supposed to deny ourselves ordinary happiness because there's misery in the world? James and Sarah (Linney), a journalist and a photographer, have been together for nine years and share a passion for documenting the realities of war. But when injuries force them to return home to New York, the adventurous couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life.

The transfer of Time Stands Still will be produced by Manhattan Theatre Club Productions, Inc. (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove Executive Producer), Nelle Nugent, Bud Martin, Ted Snowden, and Wendy Federman.

The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (scenic design), Rita Ryack (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Darron L West (sound design), Peter Golub (original music), and Thomas Schall (fight direction).
