'We Live in Cairo' sets full Off-Broadway cast

The first production in New York Theatre Workshop's fall season, written by The Lazours, is inspired by student activists protesting during the Arab Spring.

New York Theatre Workshop has set complete casting for We Live in Cairo off Broadway, its fall musical production. Performances run from October 9 to November 24, with opening night set for October 27.

The complete cast includes Ali Louis Bourzgui as Amir, Drew Elhamalawy as Hassan, John El-Jor as Karim, Nadina Hassan as Layla, Michael Khalid Karadsheh as Hany, and Rotana Tarabzouni as Fadwa.

The creative team, led by previously announced director Taibi Magar and choreographer/movement director Ann Yee, includes scenic designer Tilly Grimes, costume designer Dina El-Aziz, lighting designer Bradley King, sound designer Justin Stasiw, video designer David Bengali, orchestrators Daniel Lazour and Michael Starobin, vocal arranger/music supervisor Madeline Benson, music director Mona Seyed-Bolorforosh, voice and text coach Xavier Clark, and production stage manager Jeff Brancato.

Written by The Lazours, We Live in Cairo follows six student activists using art, photography, and song to topple an old regime during the Arab Spring. The show is inspired by true events.
