Joy Woods joins 'Six' Broadway cast as Catherine Parr
She begins performances in the role March 14.
Don't lose your head — there's a new Queen on Broadway. Joy Woods will join the cast of Six the Musical on Broadway, a pop musical about the six wives of Henry VIII, as Catherine Parr from March 14. She replaces original Broadway cast member Anna Uzele, who plays her final performance on March 13.
Woods most recently appeared as Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors off Broadway, and she's appeared in the ensembles of the Encores! revival of Mack and Mabel at New York City Center and the virtual production of Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical. She is making her Broadway debut with Six.
She joins original Broadway cast members Adrianna Hicks as Catherine of Aragon, Andrea Macasaet as Anne Boleyn, Abby Mueller as Jane Seymour, Brittney Mack as Anna of Cleves, and Samantha Pauly as Katherine Howard. The cast also includes Keirsten Nicole Hodgens, Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert, Courtney Mack, and Mallory Maedke as alternates.
Six reimagines the wives of Henry VIII as a pop girl group, who compete over who got treated the worst in order to win leadership of the group. Along the way, the Queens demonstrate the power of sisterhood and tell their own stories and achievements beyond how they were "divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived."
Creators Lucy Moss (who also co-directs with Jamie Armitage) and Toby Marlow created Six as college students in London, and the show has since become a hit around the world. After playing London's West End and touring in the U.K. and U.S., Six began Broadway performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in February 2020, and the show officially opened in October 2021 after being temporarily shuttered by the pandemic.
