‘Waitress’ to return to Broadway in September, starring Sara Bareilles
The limited engagement is at the Barrymore Theatre for four months.
A Broadway revival of Waitress will open at the Barrymore Theatre, with composer Sara Bareilles reprising the role of Jenna. Waitress will begin performances at the Barrymore Theatre on September 2 with a limited engagement to Jan. 9, 2021. Find out more about Waitress tickets on Broadway here.
Sara Bareilles will play the role of Jenna from September 2 - October 17. Further casting for the revival, as well as Jenna from October 18 is to be announced.
Waitress follows Jenna, a small-town waitress and pie maker who dreams of bigger things. When she learns she's pregnant, she visits the gynaecologist and meets Dr. Pomatter who offers a new, happier way of life. Supported by her colleagues, local customers and friendly doctor, Jenna decides to enter a pie-making competition, but her fresh start comes around in unexpected ways.
After a world premiere at the American Repertory Theater in 2015, Waitress then opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, receiving four Tony Award nominations. Waitress played its final performance on Jan 5. 2020.
Waitress features a book by Jessie Nelson, direction by Diane Paulus and choreography by Lorin Latarro. The original Waitress Broadway production had a regularly changing cast, with performers including Jessie Mueller, Shoshana Bean, Todrick Hall, Jordin Sparks and Colleen Ballinger.
In a Waitress review for New York Theatre Guide, "In this show a dream does not make you delusional. A dream is a soft place to land. And in the end that is why we cry and that is why we cheer."
Paradise Square follows Waitress at the Barrymore Theatre, scheduled to start previews from Feb. 22, 2022.
Waitress is at the Barrymore Theatre from September 2.
