Wicked to welcome new principal cast on 25 Feb 2014
Christine Dwyer will make her Broadway debut starring as 'Elphaba,' a role she recently performed on National Tour, assuming the role from Lindsay Mendez.
Jenni Barber, who has starred on Broadway in 'The Nance,' 'The Performers,' 'Annie' and 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,' and who has starred as "Lisa Heffenbacher" in the children's television series "The Electric Company," will assume the role of 'Glinda' from Alli Mauzey.
Justin Guarini, who has appeared on Broadway in 'Romeo and Juliet,' 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown' and 'American Idiot,' will assume the role of 'Fiyero' from Kyle Dean Massey.
Mary Testa, who has been nominated for Tony Awards for her appearances in '42nd Street' and 'On the Town,' will assume the role of 'Madame Morrible from Carol Kane.
Finally, P.J. Benjamin, who has previously played the role of 'The Wizard' on Broadway and on National tour, will assume the role from Tom McGowan.
Current cast members Lindsay Mendez, Alli Mauzey, Kyle Dean Massey, Carol Kane and Tom McGowan will all play their final performance on 22 Feb 2014.
They join a cast which includes Catherine Charlebois (Nessarose), K. Todd Freeman (Doctor Dillamond) and Michael Wartella (Boq).
The Broadway musical Wicked opened at the Gershwin Theatre on 30 Oct 2003, following previews from 8 Oct 2003 and is currently selling tickets through to 05 Oct 2014.
Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
Wicked has music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holzman, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.
The musical is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, scene design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by Tony Meola.
