Adam Driver to star in ‘Hold on to Me Darling’ off Broadway this fall
The play, written by Kenneth Lonergan and directed by Neil Pepe, will mark Driver’s first return to the New York stage since 2019’s Burn This on Broadway.
Hold on! Academy, Emmy, and Tony Award nominee Adam Driver will star in the play Hold on to Me Darling at the Lucille Lortel Theatre this fall. The show will play a limited engagement from September 24 to December 22, and opening night is set for October 10.
Driver is best known for his onscreen roles as Kylo Ren in the most recent Star Wars film trilogy, Charlie Barber in Marriage Story (Oscar nomination), Det. Philip "Flip" Zimmerman in BlacKkKlansman (Oscar nomination), and Adam Sackler on the TV show Girls (three Emmy nominations).
He also has an extensive theatre career, most recently earning a Tony Award nomination for starring in Burn This on Broadway in 2019. Driver’s other Broadway credits include the plays Man and Boy and Mrs. Warren’s Profession. Among his Off-Broadway work is the play Look Back in Anger, for which he won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.
In Hold on to Me Darling off Broadway, Driver stars as Strings McCrane, a country star who reevaluates what’s important in his life after his mother dies. He decides to give up fame and go back to his Tennessee hometown — but that doesn’t go smoothly.
Hold on to Me Darling is written by Kenneth Lonergan and directed by Neil Pepe. The play premiered with Atlantic Theater Company, where Pepe is artistic director, in 2016; he directed the show there as well.
Additional cast and creative team members have yet to be announced.
