Appearance - A Suspense in Being at the Theaterlab
Theaterlab present Appearance - A Suspense in Being, an expeiemental theatre piece conceived and directed by Carlo Altomare and Orietta Crispino, at the Theaterlab from 6 - 17 May 2008.
Appearance - A Suspense in Being: What is it, about the art of acting, that touches us so deeply? It is, after all, an inherent deceit, in which the actor convinces us that they are someone else. What is the discourse between who we are and what we do? Why is that distance so compelling and moving within the self?
The experiemental piece employs a special technique called 'Jazz Acting,' which draws from Meyerhold's Biomechanical etudes and applies them to a contemporary sensibility of radical discontinuity, repetition, and cognitive velocity.
Appearance - A Suspense in Being features Jeanine T. Abraham, Joy Lynn Andersen, Liza Cassidy and Orietta Crispino.
