Greta Gerwig & Oscar Isaac will star in Three Sisters at New York Theatre Workshop
New York Theatre Workshop announces the final two productions of its 2019-2020 Off-Broadway season.
New York Theatre WorkshopĀ has now announced details of the final two productions to complete the line-up for its upcoming 2019-2020 Off-Broadway season.
In Winter 2020, NYTW will presentĀ Endlings, a new play byĀ Celine Song,Ā whichĀ will be directed by Sammi Cannold.
Synopsis: "On the Korean island of Man-Jae, three elderly haenyeosāsea womenāspend their dying days diving into the ocean to harvest seafood. Across the globe on the island of Manhattan, a Korean-Canadian playwright, twice an immigrant, spends her days wrestling with the expectation that she write "authentic" stories about her identity.Ā EndlingsĀ questions what we inherit and challenges who dictates the terms."
Endlings follows the previously announced productions of the New York Premiere of Mfoniso Udofia's runboyrunĀ andĀ In Old Age, whichĀ kicks off the 2019-2020 season in the fall,Ā and the world premiere musicalĀ Sing Street, featuringĀ a book by Tony Award winnerĀ Enda WalshĀ andĀ music &Ā lyrics by John Carney & Gary Clark.
Following the previously postponed production of Pulitzer Prize winnerĀ Martyna Majok'sĀ Sanctuary City, New York Theatre Workshop will conclude its Off-Broadway season with a new production of Anton Chekhov'sĀ Three Sisters, directed by Tony Award winner Sam GoldĀ and starringĀ Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig and Golden Globe Award winner Oscar Isaac.
"NYTW Usual Suspect Sam GoldĀ revisits Chekhov following his acclaimed 2012 production of Uncle Vanya that was heralded as "luminous" and "the most intimate and engaging exploration of Chekhov's bleak comedy." This production ofĀ Three SistersĀ reunites Gold with two previous collaborators: The Village Bike's GretaĀ GerwigĀ and Hamlet's Oscar Isaac."
Greta GerwigĀ last appeared on the New York stage in MCC Theater's 2014 production ofĀ The Village Bike, under the direction of Sam Gold, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. She earned two Academy Award nominations in 2018 - for her original screenplay and direction of "Lady Bird" - and she is also widely known for her Golden Globe-nominated portrayal of Frances in the 2012 film "Frances Ha," alongside roles in the likes of "Greenberg" (2010), "Mistress America" (2015),Ā "Jackie" (2016), and "20th Century Women" (2016).
Oscar IsaacĀ was directed by Sam Gold for his performance in the titular role ofĀ HamletĀ at the Public Theater in the summer of 2017. He won a Golden Globe in 2016 for his performance in "Show Me a Hero," and earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2014 for "Inside Llewyn Davis, and he is perhaps best known for his roles as Nathan in the 2014 movie "Ex Machina" and asĀ Poe Dameron in 2017's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi".
