Hercules begins performances at the Delacorte Theater

Ready to "Go the Distance"? Public Works' world premiere stage adaptation of Disney's Hercules begins performances at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park tonight. Based on the 1997 Disney animated classic, Hercules features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by David Zippel and a book by Kristoffer Diaz. The Public Works production is directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Chase Brock.
Synopsis: "Public Works presents the glorious story of Hercules, brought to vibrant life by professional actors and community groups from across the city. Based on the Disney animated film, the stage musical features the film's beloved score, plus additional original songs by the film's composer Alan Menken and lyricist David Zippel. Journey with Hercules in this new stage adaptation that invites New Yorkers from all five boroughs to participate in a joyous musical that celebrates the heroes found in all of us."
The principal cast includes Jelani Alladin in the titular role, alongside Tony Award winner Roger Bart (who was the singing voice of Hercules in the 1997 film, as Hades), Jeff Hiller (as Panic), Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart (as Phil), Ramona Keller (as Thalia), Tamika Lawrence (as Calliope), Krysta Rodriguez (as Meg), and Rema Webb (as Terpsichore). They are joined by an ensemble of 200 cast members from across the five NYC boroughs, as well as 10 Hairy Legs, Passaic High School Marching Band, and a featured performance by Broadway Inspirational Voices.
The creative team behind Hercules also features music supervision & arrangements by Michael Kosarin, scenic design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Andrea Hood, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Kai Harada and Jessica Paz, and wigs, hair & makeup design by Cookie Jordan.
The score of Hercules includes such Disney hits as "Zero to Hero," "The Gospel Truth," "A Star Is Born," "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)," and the Oscar-nominated "Go the Distance."
Hercules is presented by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions, under the direction of Thomas Schumacher.
