Jackie Hoffman and Mo Rocca to star in ‘Fairycakes’ by Douglas Carter Beane
The new whimsical play opens at Greenwich House Theater in October.
UPDATE: Kristolyn Lloyd has joined the cast of Fairycakes as Peaseblossom. She replaces Alfie Fuller, who has departed the show due to scheduling conflicts.
The world premiere of Douglas Carter Beane's new play Fairycakes will begin performances off-Broadway this fall. A star cast including Jackie Hoffman and Mo Rocca will appear in Fairycakes, with performances at Greenwich House Theater from October 14 - Jan. 2, 2022. Fairycakes tickets are on sale now.
Inspired by William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with traditional fairytales, Fairycakes is packed with mischief and romance over a midsummer night into the day.
Speaking about his play, Beane said: "I wanted to create a show with characters learning to get along with one another, characters finding connections, characters owning their mistakes, trying to be better, and forgiving others for their failings. And finally, after this time away from it, I wanted to be in a theater and laugh with a bunch of strangers, to be with this cast of five-star comedians, me writing as funny as I can in the Greenwich House Theater, my theatrical home."
The Fairycakes cast includes Mo Rocca, Sabatino Cruz, Alfie Fuller, Jackie Hoffman, Kuhoo Verma, Ann Harada, Z Infante, Chris Myers, Jamen Nanthakumar, Julie Halston, Brooks Ashmanskas and Jason Tam.
Beane will direct Fairycakes, with choreography by Ellenore Scott, scenic design by Shoko Kambara and Adam Crinson, costume design by Gregory Gale and lighting design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew. Music contributions are by Lewis Flinn.
Fairycakes is at Greenwich House Theater from October 14 - Jan. 2, 2022.
