MCC Theater has announced its 2024-25 season, which will include two world-premiere plays and one U.S. premiere. All shows will take place at the Off-Broadway company's Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space.
The first show, running from August 14 to September 22, is Table 17, written by Douglas Lyons and directed by Zhailon Levingston. Starring three-time Tony Award nominee Kara Young, Biko Eisen-Martin, and Michael Rishawn, the play follows former fiancés Jada and Dallas, who meet for dinner to discuss their past. Despite troubled memories, sassy waiters, and an insistence on staying casual, the truth about their relationship will out.
The next play, Shit. Meet. Fan., is based on Paolo Genovese's Italian film Perfect Strangers, which has been remade in more than 20 countries. A group of young adult friends play a simple game: They must share every text message, email, and call they receive during their time together with everyone. Cocktails flow, secrets come out, and mayhem ensues.
The play is written and directed by Tony Award nominee Robert O'Hara. Performances run from October 10 to December 15.
The third production in MCC's season is the U.S. premiere of Emmanuelle Mattana's satire Trophy Boys, featuring Mattana in the cast and directed by 2024 Tony Award winner Danya Taymor (The Outsiders). The debate team at an elite all-boys prep school has one hour to prep for the final match of their high school careers. The topic is "Feminism has failed women" — and all their efforts threaten to be undermined by a "rumor" that spreads about the team.
Performances of this play about privilege and power run from June 5 to July 13, with opening night on June 24. Additional cast and creative team have yet to be named.
MCC's other 2024-25 programming includes the 25th-anniversary Miscast gala, a one-night-only annual concert featuring Broadway stars performing gender-swapped showtunes; and the return of two annual Youth Company produrctions, Uncensored and Freshplay Festival.
