Paul Mescal to star in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' off Broadway
The Normal People and All of Us Strangers star won a Laurence Olivier Award for playing Stanley in Tennessee Williams's classic play in London last year.
Paul Mescal will star in a new revival of A Streetcar Named Desire off Broadway, reprising his award-winning performance from London. The production will make its U.S. debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music this spring, with exact dates to be announced.
Mescal is best known for his onscreen performances in Normal People (BAFTA TV Award, Emmy nomination), Aftersun (Oscar, BAFTA Film Award nominations), and All of Us Strangers (BAFTA Film Award nomination).
He first played the leading role of Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire in director Rebecca Frecknall's (Cabaret on Broadway) in London's West End in 2023. The show won three Olivier Awards there, including Best Revival and Best Actor for Mescal.
Tennessee Williams's play takes place during a New Orleans summer, when fading Southern belle Blanche comes to visit her sister, Stella, and Stella's husband, Stanley. Reality and illusion collide as Blanche tries to escape her past, which Stanley is determined to unravel.
Additional casting for the New York run has yet to be confirmed. The creative team includes set designer Madeleine Girling, costume designer Merle Hensel, lighting designer Lee Curran, sound designer Peter Rice, and composer Angus MacRae.
