Roundabout Theatre Company presents the Fiasco Theater production of Merrily We Roll Along
Merrily We Roll Along begins performances at off-Broadway's Laura Pels Theatre on January 12, 2019.
Roundabout Theatre Company has announced a new addition to its 2018-2019 season. Following on from the success of the company's collaboration with Fiasco Theater with the 2015 production of Into the Woods, Roundabout will present the Fiasco Theater production of another Sondheim musical. Merrily We Roll Along will play a limited engagement at the Laura Pels Theatre, beginning on January 12, 2019, ahead of an official opening on February 19. The production is directed by Fiasco Co-Artistic Director Noah Brody.
Based on and with additional material from the original play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, Merrily We Roll Along features music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth.
Synopsis: "With Fiasco's one-of-a-kind imagination, this audacious musical about a trio of friends in showbiz who fall apart and come together over two decades emerges as newly personal and passionate. The ensemble brings to life a reimagination of Furth and Sondheim's creation in an emotionally rich new production that confronts the pains and pleasures of fame, fortune, and old friends."
The cast of Merrily We Roll Along includes Fiasco company members Jessie Austrian (Fiasco, Co-Artistic Director), Paul L. Coffey, Ben Steinfeld (Fiasco, Co-Artistic Director) and Emily Young. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The production also features music direction & orchestrations by Alexander Gemignani (currently nominated for a Tony Award for his performance as Enoch Snow in Carousel) and choreography by Lorin Latarro, with further creative team members to be announced in the coming months.
