'Shucked' to close on Broadway
The nine-time Tony Award-nominated musical comedy, which features a multi-award-winning creative team, has played the Nederlander Theatre since March.
Aw, shucks! The Broadway musical Shucked will play its final performance at the Nederlander Theatre on January 14. At the time of closing, the show will have played 355 total performances.
Shucked was one of the most Tony Award-nominated musicals in the 2022-23 season, earning nine nods, including Best Musical. The show won one award, for Best Featured Actor in a Musical Alex Newell. Shucked also earned rave reviews, with New York Theatre Guide's four-star review praising its "nonstop funny business — and some terrifically catchy tunes."
The show takes place in the fictional Cob County, whose beloved corn crop begins to die. Farmgirl Maizy puts her wedding on hold to venture outside the corn walls and find help, but the "corn doctor" she finds isn't all he seems, and he shakes up the whole town.
Shucked features direction by Tony winner Jack O'Brien (Hairspray), a book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie), and a score by Grammy-winning and Tony-nominated country songwriters Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark.
The current Shucked cast features John Behlmann, Kevin Cahoon, Andrew Durand, Grey Henson, Ashley D. Kelley, Isabelle McCalla, and Newell.
