The Madrid extends for a second and final time

The Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of The Madrid, by Liz Flahive ('From Up Here,' "Nurse Jackie"), directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman ('Chinglish,' 'From Up Here'), has extended its run for a second and final time, and will now play through to 05 May 2013.

The show, opened at NY City Center Stage I on 26 Feb 2013, following previews from 05 Feb 2013, was originally scheduled to close on 14 Apr 2013.

The play opened to mixed reviews: Lacking in terms of plot, character and purpose (newyorktheatreguide.com); Muted, murky new play (NY Times); Appealing (NYP); Undercooked (Back Stage); Dull domestic drama (Variety).

The Madrid stars four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie," The House of Blue Leaves, "The Sopranos") as 'Martha,' and also features Tony Award nominee John Ellison Conlee (The Full Monty), Heidi Schreck (Circle Mirror Transformation - Off-B'way), Phoebe Strole (Spring Awakening), two-time Tony Award winner Frances Sternhagen (The Heiress, The Good Doctor), Christopher Evan Welch (Festen), Seth Clayton and Brooke Ashley Laine.

The Madrid: Martha (Edie Falco) is a kindergarten teacher with a life many would want: a loving husband, a devoted daughter. But when she leaves it all behind, it's up to her daughter Sarah (Phoebe Strole) to pick up the pieces.

The creative team includes David Zinn (scenic design), Emily Rebholtz (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design) and Jill BC Du Boff (sound design).
