The Voysey Inheritance, extends for a third time Parlour Song is re-scheduled.

Atlantic Theater Company have announced a third extension of the acclaimed production of David Mamets adaptation of Harley Granville Barkers The Voysey Inheritance.

Following sold out houses since opening in December to strong reviews, The Voysey Inheritance will now play an additional six weeks through to 25 Mar 2007.

The New York Times said of the play "Crisply acted, largely engrossing revival." The New York Post printed "A breathlessly fast-paced, two-hour drama that's superbly delivered in this beautifully acted production." Variety wrote "A bracing revival, anchored by a regal performance from Fritz Weaver. Sharply illuminated in a crisp adaptation by David Mamet ." However not all reviews were as positive, the Journal News said the play was an "Earnest but laborious adaptation." You can read more of what the critics said here.

The New York premiere production of The Voysey Inheritance, originally scheduled to close on 7 Jan 2007, was initially extended two weeks to 21 Jan 2007. A second three week extension was announced through to 10 Feb 2007.

The Voysey Inheritance began previews on 15 Nov 2006 and opened 6 Dec at the Atlantic Theater.

Atlantics third production of the season, the world premiere of Jez Butterworths play Parlour Song, which was scheduled to begin previews February 28 for a March 21 opening, will now be presented during the 2007-2008 season.

Atlantic Artistic Director Neil Pepe said We are thrilled with the success of The Voysey Inheritance and that both critics and audiences have embraced Mamets new adaptation of this extraordinary play. We are delighted that the demand for tickets has prompted an unprecedented third extension, the first time in Atlantics history. We look forward to presenting Jez Butterworths Parlour Song next season.

The Voysey Inheritance explores the timely issue of morals vs. money as an upper middle class family goes to pieces when it is revealed that the patriarch (Fritz Weaver) has amassed the family fortune by secretly embezzling money from his clients. As his son (Michael Stuhlbarg) tries to put things in order, he discovers that the family is more than willing to perpetuate this way of doing business, rather than sacrifice their comfort and luxury.

The Voysey Inheritance features Michael Stuhlbarg (The Pillowman), Tony Award winner Fritz Weaver (Childs Play), Atlantic Company members Steven Goldstein, Todd Weeks, Rachel Black, Christopher Duva, Peter Maloney, Tricia Paoluccio, Judith Roberts, Geddeth Smith, Samantha Soule and CJ Wilson.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Atlantic Theater Company co-founder David Mamet returned to the Atlantic following the acclaimed world premiere production of his comedy Romance, which subsequently enjoyed celebrated engagements at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and The Almeida Theatre in London. Mamet founded Atlantic Theater Company with actor William H. Macy in 1985, and over the last twenty years, the company has staged more than two dozen of the prolific playwrights works including Edmond, American Buffalo, Sexual Perversity in Chicago and The Water Engine.
