'Trevor: The Musical' closes early off Broadway
The musical played its final performance December 19.
Trevor: The Musical has ended its Off-Broadway run. On the morning of December 20, the show, which was originally booking at Stage 42 through April 2022, announced a closing date of January 2. Later that day, the show canceled its final two weeks of performances after Covid-19 cases were detected in the company.
Trevor: The Musical starred Holden William Hagelberger as the titular character, a 13-year-old boy who has trouble connecting with his peers and his family because he is gay. As he navigates his sexuality and becoming a teenager, Trevor learns to be confident in his authentic self. The New York Theatre Guide review reads, "The show's saving grace is Trevor himself, a lovable and sympathetic survivor — an 'everyoutlier' you root for no matter what."
The musical was based on the Academy Award-winning short film Trevor, which later became the namesake of the LGBT crisis hotline The Trevor Project. The Trevor musical features a book and lyrics by Dan Collins, music by Julianne Wick Davis, choreography by Joshua Prince, and direction by Marc Bruni.
The cast of Trevor: The Musical still plans to record a cast album as previously announced.
