About Lyric Theatre

Built on the site of the former Apollo Theatre and Lyric Theatre, which had fallen into neglect and disrepair, the new Lyric Theatre officially opened on January 26, 1998. The building was called the Ford Center for the Performing Arts at the time, and the first production there was the musical Ragtime

After renovations, the theatre was renamed the Hilton Theatre in 2005 and Foxwoods Theatre in 2010. The U.K.-based Ambassador Theatre Group acquired the lease to the theatre — its first Broadway venue — in May 2013 and restored the Lyric Theatre name in March 2014. Between then and 2018, the theatre underwent another renovation to implement custom decor for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the venue's current tenant.
