Located in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (also known as the 47th Street Theatre) is an Off-Broadway venue with a 196-seat capacity.
Once utilized as a firehouse, the building later housed the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater company. From 2007, it gained popularity as a theatre as the home of the popular Forbidden Broadway musical parody revues.
Spamilton transferred into the theatre in June 2017, partly due to its proximity to Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre — the home of the smash hit musical Hamilton, which Spamilton spoofs. The show ended its run there in 2018, and the venue now hosts a variety of musicals, plays, and concerts inspired by Puerto Rican culture.
The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater is closest to the 50th St. subway stop on the C and E line. The closest bus stop is 8 Av./W 46 St. on the M20 and M104 lines.
