Jeff Daniels among cast and creatives announced for To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway

Bartlett Sher directs Aaron Sorkin's new take on Harper Lee's classic novel.

Four-time Golden Globe and two-time Tony Award nominee Jeff Daniels is among the cast announced for Bartlett Sher's upcoming Broadway production of the Harper Lee classic, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Mr. Daniels will play Atticus Finch, a lawyer from a small Alabama town in the 1930s, and father to Scout, who will be played by three-time Tony Award nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger. The cast also includes Will Pullen as Scout's brother Jem, Gideon Glick as friend Dill, and Tony Award nominee LaTanya Richardson Jackson as the housekeeper Calpurnia.

Jeff Daniels is best-known for his work on screen in movies such as "Terms of Endearment", "The Hours", "Steve Jobs", "Dumb and Dumber" and "The Martian". On Broadway, he received Tony Award nominations in 2016 for his role in the David Harrower play Blackbird, in which he starred opposite Michelle Williams, and in 2009 for God of Carnage.

Bartlett Sher, whose recent Broadway credits include Oslo and The King and I, will direct the Aaron Sorkin's new take on the classic story. The play will run at a yet to be announced theatre from November 1, with an opening night on December 13.  

Other cast members playing well-known Maycomb characters include Dakin Matthews (as Judge Taylor), two-time Tony Award nominee Stark Strands (as Horace Gilmmer), Frederick Weller (as Bob Ewell), Erin Wilhelmi (as Mayella Ewell) and Gbenga Akinnagbe (as Tom Robinson). The cast also includes Tony Award nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson, Phyllis Somerville, and Liv Rooth.

Further casting will be announced in due course.

Synopsis: Based on an event that occurred in Alabama in the 1930s, Harper Lee's enduring story of racial injustice and the destruction of childhood innocence centers on one of the most beloved and admired characters in American literature, the small-town lawyer Atticus Finch.

The creative team includes original music by Adam Guettel, scenic design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, and sound design by Scott Lehrer.
