US: written by 'Queer as Folk' star Michelle Clunie



The world premiere of actress and playwright Michelle Clunie's new play US will openat Theatre Row's Lion Theater on 9 Sep 2012, following previews from 5 Sep 2012, and close on 29 Sep 2012.

Best known for her role on the Showtime series "Queer as Folk," Clunie will star opposite Jeff LeBeau (Burning In China, Film: Spirit—Stallion of the Cimmaron ), in a production helmed by Jennifer Gelfer.

The press notes describe US as "A 21st century love story set against the backdrop of the 2008 Presidential election. US examines the power struggles in both politics and the bedroom. It dissects how people meet, communicate, copulate and fall in love in the age of constant media and technology."

The play is being presented Off-Broadway by One Pear Productions LLC.

Bios:

Michelle Clunie (Playwright/performer) is a performer whose credits include the Showtime series "Queer as Folk", the independent film, "Leaving Barstow" (Breckenridge Film Festival, Best Supporting Actress). She has performed on stage in Neil LeBute's West Coast premiere of, 'The Mercy Seat' (West Coast Backstage Best Performance of the Year), 'A Comedy of Errors' (Drama-Logue Award), as well as a benefit performance of 'The Vagina Monologues' to help end Violence against women. Clunie has also been recognized for her work in furthering Human Rights includingd a special proclamation in San Francisco for her work with HIV/AIDS patients

West Cost premieres of 'Swimming at The Road Big Death' and 'Little Death.' Jennifer Gelfer (Director) is the director of the acclaimed web series, "In Between Men," which is now in preproduction for its second season, to be shot this fall. Among her many theatrical directing credits are, 'Four Dogs and A Bone,' the award winning 'Stray Dog Hearts,' 'Brilliant Traces,' 'Owl and the Pussycat,' 'Pearls Before Swine,' 'Twilight of the Golds' and many more.
