Todrick D. Hall was born on April 4, 1985 in Arlington, Texas. He initially studied ballet from the age of nine years old but began his career working as a dancer on cruise ships and at theme parks.
Todrick made his Broadway debut in the 2005 Broadway premiere of The Color Purple, but he rose to fame in 2009 as a contestant on the ninth season of American Idol, ultimately making it to the semi-finals. After his time on American Idol, Todrick returned to Broadway and appeared in Memphis from August 2010 to January 2011. He also became a YouTube sensation, releasing videos of original songs, covers, and parodies, as well as the web series Pop Star High. He has amassed over 2.6 million subscribers and over 483 million views. In 2015, he also starred in his own MTV reality series simply named Todrick. In addition, he has appeared numerous times as a guest judge or full-time judge on RuPaul's Drag Race.
As a recording artist, Todrick Hall has released a total of three studio albums: Somebody's Christmas (2010), Pop Star High (2014), and Straight Outta Oz (2016). The latter also led to the Straight Outta Oz Tour in the summer of 2016.
Todrick returned to Broadway and starred as Lola in Kinky Boots from November 1, 2016 to March 5, 2017, after which he reprised The Straight Outta Oz Tour internationally. He took on the role of Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of Chicago from November 30, 2017 through to January 14, 2018 (reprising the role in London and making his West End debut from November 2018 through January 2019), and returned to Broadway to play Ogie in the hit musical Waitress from August 20 to September 15, 2019.
