A Little Night Music: Reports say that Catherine Zeta-Jones will star alongside Angela Lansbury, expected to bow in Dec
Michael Riedel, of the New York Post, reports that Catherine Zeta-Jones will make her Broadway debut when she stars alongside Angela Lansbury in The Menier Chocolate Factory's production of A Little Night Music, music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Hugh Wheeler, and directed by Trevour Nunn with choreographed by Lynne Page.
According to Riedel the musical will bow on Broadway in December, playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
Riedel says that Zeta-Jones will be cast as 'Desiree' in the production. The role involves no dancing and the only song Zeta-Jones will sing is 'Send in the Clowns.' Lansbury is to play Desiree's wheelchair confined mother, 'Madame Armfeldt.'
A Little Night Music had its premiere at the 180 seat Menier Chocolate Factory Theatre from 22 Nov 2008 to 8 March 2009, before transferring to the West End's Garrick Theatre, opening 7 April 2009, following previews from 28 March 2009, where it played through to 25 Jul 2009.
In a press release, dated May 2009, announcing a six week extension of the musical's West End run, David Babani said: It is with great excitement that we are able to announce further London performances of Trevor Nunns Chocolate Factory production of A Little Night Music. Since its original opening in December last year, the production has played to packed houses both at the Chocolate Factory and the Garrick Theatre, and discussions are currently underway for a Broadway production to open later this year.
The musical opened to good notices from the popular press: "Delicious production." (Guardian); "At its finest Nunns production has needle-sharp poignancy." (The Times); "I found myself almost continually entranced...It's a fine production of a musical that only misses greatness by a whisker." (Daily Telegraph).
A Little Night Music: Set in turn-of-the-century Sweden where affairs of the heart are uppermost in everyone's thoughts. The story centres on the passionate liaisons between four couples over a midsummer weekend.

This will be the first Broadway revival of A Little Night Music since the musical premiered on Broadway in 1973. That production was directed by Harold Prince, choreographed by Patricia Birch, and featured Hermione Gingold as 'Madame Armfeldt' and Glynis Johns as 'Desiree.'
The Meiner Chocolate Factor's production of Sondheim's 'Sunday In The Park With George' had a succesful run on Broadway in 2008, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, and was nominated in a further eight categories.
