Atlantic Theater Company announces the cast of The Homecoming Queen
Ngozi Anyanwu's world premiere play at Atlantic Stage 2 finds its cast.
Atlantic Theater Company has announced the cast of the upcoming world premiere of Ngozi Anyanwu's The Homecoming Queen, which is scheduled to begin previews on January 10, 2018 at Atlantic Stage 2, before an official opening on January 22 and a limited run through to February 11, 2018. The production will mark Ms. Anyanwu's Off-Broadway debut.
The cast includes Oberon K.A. Adjepong (as Papa), Segun Akande (as Obina), Mirirai Sithole (as Beatrice), and Mfoniso Udofia (as Kelechi), alongside Ebbe Bassey, Vinie Burrows, Patrice Johnson, and Zenzi Williams.
Synopsis: "A bestselling novelist returns to Nigeria to care for her ailing father, but before she can bury him, she must relearn the traditions she's long forgotten. Having been absent for over a decade, she must collide with her culture, traumatic past, painful regrets, and the deep, deep love she thought she could never have."
Under the direction of Awoye Timpo, the creative team behind The Homecoming Queen features music direction by Nolufefe Mtshabe, scenic design by Yu-Hsuan Chen, costume design by Ntokozo Fuzunina Kunene, lighting design by Oona Curley, sound design by Amatus Karim-Ali, movement direction by Hope Boykin, and dialect coaching by Ebbe Bassey.
Atlantic's 2017-2018 Off-Broadway season also includes The Great Leap by Lauren Yee at Atlantic Stage 2 from May 23 to June 17, 2018. At the Linda Gross Theater, Atlantic is currently presenting Describe the Night by Rajiv Joseph, which officially opens on December 5 and continues its limited run through to December 24, 2017. This will be followed by the US premiere of Hangmen by Martin McDonagh from January 18 to March 4, 2018, and finally the world premiere of Stephen Trask, Peter Yanowitz & Rick Elice's new musical This Ain't No Disco from May 11 to July 1, 2018.
