Find out which Broadway musicals and plays you can see on Mondays, Thursday afternoons, or Sunday evenings, when shows do not typically play.

It seems like the bright lights of Broadway never go dim, but every show and its company needs time off. Most Broadway shows have Mondays off, but not all. If you're in New York for a long weekend and want to catch a Monday show, or just need a cure for the Monday blues after a long day, all is not lost. Certain shows' schedules differ from the Broadway norm, so there's theatre available to check out every night of the week.

And it's not just nights: Some shows also add matinees on Thursdays, so if your long-weekend trip starts before the actual weekend, you can see a Broadway musical or play first thing when you arrive. And if your weekend schedule is packed, never fear: most shows offer two performances on Saturdays, and a few offer two on Sundays, too. There's plenty of flexibility so you can fit in a show no matter what your schedule is.

Read below for all the Broadway shows with atypical performance schedules, so you know what's available at off-times. This article will be continually updated as new shows open, and if currently-running shows change their regular weekly schedules. You can also visit each show's individual page for an up-to-date weekly calendar, which reflects all one-time changes.

What is the typical performance schedule for a Broadway show?

Most Broadway shows perform six days a week, with eight performances total per week. Typically, Broadway shows have performances Tuesday through Sunday, with no performances on Monday. There are usually two performances — a matinee and an evening show — on Wednesday and Saturday. There is one performance on the remaining four days, usually a matinee on Sunday and evening performances on the weekdays.

However, some shows' schedules vary: Certain shows have two performances on Sunday instead of Wednesday, for example, or they take off a day of the week other than Monday. Below are shows with atypical performance schedules that can help you plan your trip to the theatre for a long weekend or otherwise.

Shows with Monday performances

Most shows are dark on Mondays, but a few are in performances. If you're spending a long weekend in the city and want to see a Monday show, or you simply want to beat the Monday blues after a long day, here are the Broadway shows that perform on Mondays.

Shows with Sunday evening performances

Most Broadway shows have one performance on a Sunday, and it's usually a matinee. Some shows differ from this schedule, however, either adding a second performance on Sunday evening, or playing an evening performance in lieu of a matinee. Many Sunday evening performances are earlier than weekday evening performances, which accommodates visitors who need to travel after the show. Below are the shows with Sunday evening performances.
