Complete cast announced to join Glenn Close in Mother of the Maid
The Public Theater's New York premiere of Mother of the Maid also adds a 2-week extension to its limited engagement.
The Public Theater has now revealed complete casting for its previously announced New York premiere of Jane Anderson's Mother of the Maid, which begins previews at the Public's Anspacher Theater on September 25, 2018, ahead of an official opening on October 17. In addition, due to popular demand the limited engagement has now been extended and will play its final performance on December 2, 2018 (instead of November 18).
Joining six-time Academy Award nominee and three-time Tony & Emmy Award winner Glenn Close (as Isabelle, the mother of Joan of Arc) will be Dermot Crowley (as Jacques Arc), Olivia Gilliatt (as Monique), Kate Jennings Grant (as Lady of the Court), Andrew Hovelson (as Pierre Arc), Daniel Pearce (as Father Gilbert), and Grace Van Patten (as Joan Arc).
Synopsis: "Mother of the Maid tells the story of Joan of Arc's mother, a sensible, hard-working, God-fearing peasant woman whose faith is upended as she deals with the baffling journey of her odd and extraordinary daughter. This riveting play is an epic tale told through an unexpected and remarkable new perspective and is a deeply moving drama about the glories and challenges of raising an exceptional child."
Under the direction of Matthew Penn, the creative team also features scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Alexander Sovronsky & Joanna Lynne Staub, and original music by Alexander Sovronsky.
Glenn Close will return to the off-Broadway stage for the first time since 1985 with this production, although she did lend her voice as the Giant for the Public's production of Into the Woods at the Delacorte Theater in the summer of 2012. She also won Tony Awards in 1992 and 1984 for her performances in Death and the Maiden and The Real Thing, respectively, and earned her first Tony Award nomination for Barnum in 1980. Her other Broadway credits include A Delicate Balance, Benefactors, The Crucifer of Blood, Rex, The Member of the Wedding, The Rules of the Game, and her Broadway debut in Love for Love in 1974. On screen, she has received Academy Award nominations for her performances in "Alberts Nobbs" (2012), "Dangerous Liaisons" (1989), "Fatal Attraction" (1988), "The Natural" (1985), "The Big Chill" (1984), and "The World According to Garp" (1983), and is also known for her iconic role as Cruella DeVil in Disney's live-action remake of "101 Dalmatians" (1996) and as Patty Hewes in the hit FX/Audience TV series "Damages" (2007-12).
Mother of the Maid Tickets are available now for performances from September 25 through to December 2, 2018.
