'Dr Sex' the musical comedy about Dr. Alfred Kinsey to close on the 9 Oct 2005
Dr Sex, a musical comedy about Dr. Alfred Kinsey, is to close on the 9 Oct 2005, the show had been booking to the 30 Oct 2005. When it closes the show will have played 24 previews and 45 regular performances. The show opened at the Peter Norton Space on the 20 Sep 2005, following previews from the 26 Aug 2005.
The show opened to luke-warm to poor notices: The New York Times called the show "A small, silly musical in the guise of a big, silly one." and the New York Daily News said "Manages to make sex seem monotonous and mechanical."
Set in the 1930s and 40s in Bloomington, Indiana, Dr Sex explores the loving relationship between Dr. Alfred Kinsey, his wife, Clara...and their handsome boyfriend (and lab assistant), Wally Matthews. When Professor Kinsey, tired of cataloguing American gall wasps, discovers his lifes work in human sexual research, Bloomington becomes a hotbed of science and sex. Fun, sweet and outrageously screwball, with toe-tapping music and memorable lyrics, Dr. Sex is the new musical comedy for anyone whos ever had (or thought about having) you-know-what.
Dr Sex has a score by Larry Bortniker, with book by Larry Bortniker and Sally Deering.
The cast for the musical, directed by Pamela Hunt, is headed by Brian Noonan in the title role of Dr. Alfred Kinsey.
