Glengarry Glen Ross recoups Broadway investment

The Broadway revival of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross, starring Al Pacino and directed by Daniel Sullivan, is the first production of the 2012/2013 season to its investment.

Glengarry Glen Ross opened at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on 08 Dec 2012, following previews from 19 Oct 2012, nd is playing a limited engagement through to 20 Jan 2013.

The play slices to the core of the American dream and exposes the depths people will go to stay on top of the game. Mamet himself worked in a real estate office in Chicago in 1969 setting up appointments for salesmen, and the play is influenced by the cutthroat politics he encountered.

The cast for features two-time Tony Award winner Al Pacino as 'Shelly Levene,' Tony Award-nominee Bobby Cannavale as 'Richard 'Ricky' Roma,' Tony Award-nominee David Harbour as 'John Williamson,' Tony Award-nominee Jeremy Shamos as 'James Lingk,' Emmy Award winner Richard Schiff as 'George Aaronow,' Murphy Guyer (Women on the Verge) as 'Detective Baylen' and John C. McGinley ("Scrubbs") as 'Dave Moss.'

The creative team includes set design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Jess Goldstein and lighting design by James F. Ingalls.

This production marks the 30th year anniversary of Glengarry Glen Ross, which Mamet wrote in 1982. It premiered in the 1983-1984 season at the Royal National Theatre in London. That same year, it made its American debut at Chicago's Goodman Theatre before moving to Broadway's Golden Theatre where it ran for a total of 378 performances.

The revival is being produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals who produced the 2005 Tony Award winning revival and subsequently worked with Mamet, producing 'November,' 'Speed-The-Plow,' 'A Life in The Theatre' and 'Race.' Richards and Frankel will be producing the new David Mamet play, 'The Anarchist' this fall on Broadway.

The play was nominated for a Tony for Best Play when it premiered on Broadway in 1984. Directed by Gregory Mosher it starred Robert Prosky - in a Tony nominated role - as 'Shelly Levene.'

It was revived in 2005, directed by Joe Mantello, and starred Alan Alda as 'Shelly Levene.' The production won the 2005 Tony Award for best revival and earned Alda a Tony nomination. Jeffrey Richards was also one of this production's lead producers.
