'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' musical to open on Broadway in 2025
The stage adaptation of the bestselling book by John Berendt comes to New York following a critically acclaimed world-premiere run at Chicago's Goodman Theatre.
The new musical Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil plans to debut on Broadway in 2025, with exact dates and a venue to be announced.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, adapted from John Berendt's 1994 nonfiction novel of the same name, is based on the true story of antiques dealer Jim Williams, who rocks Savannah, Georgia, when he's accused of a murder. What follows is a sensational trial that sweeps up many other town residents.
The show features an adapted script by Taylor Mac (Gary, A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, HBO's A 24-Decade History of Popular Music) and a score by Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Parade). Rob Ashford directs, and Tanya Birl-Torres choreographs.
The Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil musical premiered earlier this year at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago with the same lead creative team. Also on the creative side are set designer Christopher Oram, costume designer Toni-Leslie James, lighting designers Neil Austin and Jamie Platt, and sound designer Jon Weston.
The cast of the Chicago production was led by Tony Award winner J. Harrison Ghee as The Lady Chablis, Tony nominee Tom Hewitt as Jim Williams, and Olivier nominee Sierra Boggess as Emma Dawes. Broadway casting for Midnight has yet to be announced.
