Outer Critics Circle 2008 - 2009 nominations announced


Celebrating its 59th season of bestowing awards of excellence in the field of theater, the Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators covering New York theater for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, announced today (20 April 2009) its nominees for the 2008-09 season in 23 categories.

Broadway stars and former Outer Critics Circle Award winners Rebecca Luker and Danny Burstein presided over the (11am) announcement ceremony at Manhattan�s historic Algonquin Hotel.

'Billy Elliot the Musical' & 'Shrek the Musical' joinly lead with 10 nominations, followed jointly by '33 Variations,' 'Ruined,' 'Waiting for Godot' and 'West Side Story' - which all have 5 nomoinations.

The winners of the Outer Critics Circle Awards will be announced on the 11 May 2009, with the awards presented at a ceremony on the 21 May 2009 at Sardi's Restaurant.

The following Awards, to be presented at the ceremony were also announced: Outstanding Ensemble Performance Award for the cast of The Norman Conquests: Amelia Bullmore, Jessica Hynes, Stephen Mangan, Ben Miles Paul Ritter and Amanda Root.

Special Achievement Award will go to David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish for their performances in 'Billy Elliot the Musical'.
