Richard Nelson’s final ‘Rhinebeck Panorama’ play to premiere this summer
'What Happened?: The Michaels Abroad' is at Hunter College for six weeks.
The world premiere of Richard Nelson's latest play What Happened?: The Michaels Abroad will play an engagement this summer. What Happened?: The Michaels Abroad will run at Frederick Loewe Theater at Hunter College from August 28 - October 8, and is the final show in a dozen plays collectively titled Rhinebeck Panorama.
"I have been inspired by producing my last two Apple Family Zoom plays independently and it has led me to create a new ad hoc theater venture," said playwright and director Richard Nelson.
The Rhinebeck Panorama is a collection of 12 plays that follows the lives of the Apples, the Gabriels and the Michaels from Upstate New York for over a decade. What Happened?: The Michaels Abroad centres on the Michaels, the third family in the series. For this play, the Michaels will be in Angers, France to attend a student dance festival. Having lived in the pandemic, their lives are turned upside down.
The press night for What Happened?: The Michaels Abroad is on September 8, the same day that the play is set.
The cast of What Happened?: The Michaels Abroad features Charlotte Bydwell, Haviland Morris, Maryann Plunkett, Jay O. Sanders, Matilda Sakamoto, Rita Wolf and Yvonne Woods. Nelson directs, with scenic design by Jason Ardizzone-West, costume design by Susan Hiflerty, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton and sound design by Will Pickens.
