In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, composer Stephen Sondheim revealed plans to open a new show on Broadway next season.

Sondheim wrote the show, called Square One, together with playwright David Ives. The pair worked together on another show based on two Luis Buñuel films, which was ultimately scrapped. Sondheim did not share any information on the plot of Square One.

Sondheim also said a reading of Square One was held last week and that it was "really encouraging." Nathan Lane and Bernadette Peters are reported to have participated in the reading, though there is no word on whether they will be part of Square One if it moves to Broadway.

If Square One premieres next season, it will be the second Broadway season in a row featuring Sondheim's work. The newest revival of his musical Company, starring Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone, begins performances on Broadway November 15.
