The 24 Hour Plays to launch first-ever series of Viral Monologues
Patrick Wilson, Marin Ireland, Will Swenson & more will star in the new online initiative that launches tonight, March 17, 2020.
If you, like us, are already experiencing theater withdrawal symptoms, then we may just have a dramatic remedy for you and it launches tonight! In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the world, The 24 Hour Plays and twenty brave actors have decided that the show must go on (in one form or another)! They have been paired up with twenty gifted writers, who have created original monologues just for them to be performed for the cameras and broadcast online.
Following the tradition of The 24 Hour Plays, first founded in 1995, the twenty participating actors shared "brief orientation-style" videos with their writing counterparts at 6pm last night, giving the writers a chance to get to know them a little better. The writers were then tasked to complete a monologue for their assigned actor by 9am this morning. These are being filmed throughout the day and will be released from 6pm tonight (one monologue every fifteen minutes), thus completing the 24-hour cycle.
The list of actors taking part in Viral Monologues includes (in alphabetical order) Ashlie Atkinson, David Cross, Hugh Dancy, Dagmara Domińczyk, Timothy Douglas, Rachel Dratch, Isabelle Fuhrman, Joel Marsh Garland, Tavi Gevinson, Amy Hargreaves, Marin Ireland, Russell G. Jones, Richard Kind, Katherine McNamara, Bobby Moreno, Denis O'Hare, Andre Royo, Will Swenson, Haskiri Velasquez, and Patrick Wilson.
They will all be performing original monologues from this talented list of writers: Rachel Axler, Hilary Bettis, Sam Chanse, Jesse Eisenberg, Ken Greller, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Kathleen Hale, Lily Houghton, Hansol Jung, David Lindsay-Abaire, Monique Moses, Charlie O'Leary, Lily Padilla, Christopher Oscar Peña, Simon Rich, Harrison David Rivers, Howard Sherman, and Jenny Rachel Weiner.
So, tune in to IGTV @24hourplays or visit https://24hourplays.com/viral-monologues/ from 6pm tonight to combat the Corona blues!
