The Cat Who Went to Heaven at the Culture Project
Culture Project presents The Cat Who Went to Heaven, a children's puppet musical, music and lyrics by Nancy Harrow and based on the book by Elizabeth Coatsworth, at Culture Project-SoHo theater from 25 Mar - 12 Apr 2008.
The Cat Who Went to Heaven is a jazz-inflected family tale about a struggling Japanese artist, his housekeeper, a Buddhist priest from the local temple and an inspirational cat. When the cat unexpectedly appears in the starving artist�s studio, his fortune begins to change. The show features 16 songs sung by the cast of four.
Directed by Will Pomerantz, The Cat Who Went to Heaven features Nancy Harrow (the cat), Anton Krukowski, Daryl Sherman and Grady Tate.
The Cat Who Went to Heaven will be presented using Bunraku-style puppets, a form of traditional Japanese puppet theater. The full design team includes Jane Catherine Shaw (puppet design and construction, puppetry direction), Amanda Maddock (puppet and costume design) and Joseph Silovsky (set design).
