The Night Alive extends run by one week3
Atlantic Theater Company's presentation of the American premiere of the Donmar Warehouse production of The Night Alive, written and directed by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson, has extended its run by one week and will now play through to 02 Feb 2014.
The Night Alive opened at the Linda Gross Theater on 12 Dec 2013, following previews from 30 Nov 2013, and was originally scheduled to play a nine week limited engagement through to 26 Jan 2013.
The production open on Broadway to mostly excellent reviews: Something bright and beautiful (NY Times); Intriguing and rich in atmosphere (NY Daily News); Captivating play rich in tenderness (Hollywood Reporter).
The cast, direct from The Donmar Warehouse production, features Caoilfhionn Dunne, Brian Gleeson , Ciarán Hinds, Michael McElhatton and Tony Award winner Jim Norton ('The Seafarer').
Tommy's (Ciarán Hinds) not a bad man, he's getting by. Renting a run-down room in his Uncle Maurice's (Jim Norton) house, just about keeping his ex-wife and kids at arm's length and rolling from one get-rich-quick scheme to the other with his pal Doc (Michael McElhatton). Then one day he comes to the aid of Aimee (Caoilfhionn Dunne), who's not had it easy herself, struggling through life the only way she knows how. Their past won't let go easily. But together there's a glimmer of hope they could make something more of their lives. Something extraordinary. Perhaps.
The production is designed by Soutra Gilmour, with lighting design by Neil Austin and sound design by Gregory Clarke.
The Night Alive marks the return of Olivier Award winning and Tony Award nominated playwright Conor McPherson to Atlantic, where his plays 'Port Authority' and 'Dublin Carol' previously received award winning premiere productions. The acclaimed Broadway production of his play 'The Seafarer' received four Tony Award nominations, including Best Play. He was recently represented Off-Broadway with an extended engagement of 'The Weir' at The Irish Repertory Theatre Company.
The Night Alive received its world premiere at The Donmar Warehouse this summer, where it played from 13 Jun - 27 Jul 2013.
