Andrew Lloyd Webber to launch free musical theater streaming service
The Show Must Go On! will begin streaming tomorrow, Friday, April 3, 2020 at 2pm (ET).
Fear not, musical theater fans, the Lord will save us... Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, that is! The multiple Tony Award-winning composer and producer is launching his own YouTube channel entitled The Show Must Go On! tomorrow, Friday, April 3, 2020... and it's completely free!
The plan is that every Friday evening a new Andrew Lloyd Webber production will be made available on the channel beginning 7pm BST (2pm ET) for a 48-hour period. So, each weekend you can stream a new musical from the comfort of your own homes.
From April 3 through April 5, Webber fans can relive the 1999 film adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which starred Donny Osmond in the titular role alongside Maria Friedman as the Narrator, Richard Attenborough as Jacob, and Joan Collins as Mrs. Potiphar.
From April 10 (Good Friday) through April 12 (Easter Sunday), Webber has conveniently picked the 2012 live arena tour recording of Jesus Christ Superstar, starring West End favorite Ben Forster as the title character, supported by Spice Girl Melanie C as Mary Magdalene and Matilda and Groundhog Day composer Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot.
And if you still haven't had your JCS fill by then, NBC has also confirmed it will be re-airing 2018's five-time Emmy Award-winning presentation of Jesus Christ Superstar: Live in Concert on Easter Sunday, April 12. Featuring Emmy-nominated performances from Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas Iscariot, Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene, and John Legend as Jesus, the production has proved one of the most successful in all the live televised musicals since 2013's The Sound of Music Live!
