Broadway League and Actors’ Equity set Covid-19 vaccination mandate

All performers, crew and audiences must be vaccinated for all shows through the end of December 2021.

UPDATE: On October 1, the Broadway League announced that vaccination and mask requirements to attend Broadway shows will be extended through December 31, 2021. Policies for 2022 will be reviewed on December 1.

Ahead of the full reopening of Broadway theatres in the coming weeks, the Broadway League and Actors' Equity have set a series of safety protocols in place. As part of Broadway shows reopening, all cast, crew, theatre staff and audience members must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 for all performances through to October 31.

Masks will also need to be worn inside the theatre, except while eating or drinking in certain locations of theatres. 

As part of the protocols advised by the Broadway League: "Guests will need to be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine in order to attend a show and must show proof of vaccination at their time of entry into the theatre with their valid ticket. "Fully vaccinated" means the performance date must be at least 14 days after the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, or at least 14 days after a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine."

Currently, the announced regulations will affect all performances through to October 31, 2021. Protocols for Broadway performances from November 1 are likely to be reviewed in September.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, people attending indoor live events and performances in NYC will need to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination and a photo ID from August 17, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday. Inspection and enforcement will begin from September 13.

At the moment, Springsteen on Broadway is the only Broadway show open at full capacity. All audience members are required to be fully vaccinated.

Next week, Pass Over begins performances at the August Wilson Theatre. In order for audience members to enter the auditorium, they must prove a full Covid-19 vaccination. Guests who are unvaccinated must provide proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test within 72 hours of performance time, or a negative Covid-19 antigen test within 6 hours of performance time.
