Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization to hold ‘Cinderella’ live streaming party
The 1997 Brandy and Whitney Houston adaptation is on Disney+ this Friday.
Ahead of the exclusive streaming of Cinderella on Disney+, the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization are holding a live viewing party. The event will take place on February 12, the same day that Cinderella drops on the Disney streaming service.
Premiering on November 2, 1997, Cinderella was celebrated by critics and viewers alike for its diverse casting. The movie adaptation stars Brandy in the title role, who made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago in 2015. Whitney Houston plays the Fairy Godmother, alongside Jason Alexander as Lionel, Whoopi Goldberg as Queen Constantina, Bernadette Peters as Stepmother, Veanne Cox as Calliope, Natalie Desselle as Minerva, Victor Garber as King Maximillian and Paolo Montalbán as Prince Christopher.
The musical features Rodgers and Hammerstein songs including "Impossible" and "In My Own Little Corner", with the film subsequently receiving seven Emmy Award nominations.
The Cinderella adaptation marked the second time the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical was seen on television, after a 1957 premiere starring Julie Andrews. More recently, Cinderella made its Broadway premiere at the Broadway Theatre in 2013, starring Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana.
The upcoming Cinderella release marks the latest in a variety of Disney musicals available on Disney+. Subscribers can watch the Broadway production of Hamilton, as well as Frozen and The Lion King. Discover more on Disney+ with New York Theatre Guide.
