About Teeth

Take a bite out of the new Off-Broadway musical Teeth, playing at New World Stages this fall after a critically acclaimed world premiere at Playwrights Horizons. The 2007 cult classic dark comedy movie now sings, and Anna K. Jacobs and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Jackson are behind the contemporary music, lyrics, and book. Get Teeth tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

A legendary, R-rated fable, the Teeth musical follows Christian teenager Dawn, who discovers that when men wrong her, she bites back. Not from her mouth, but from her vagina. A pitch-black comedy and campy romp, this story shows how one girl turns her bodily curse into her saving grace. In a cast led by Drama Desk Award nominee Alyse Alan Louis and Broadway mainstay Steven Pasquale, Teeth unearths desire, revenge, and the slippery line between cult and community.

Jackson is best known for his musical following A Strange Loop, which also premiered at Playwrights Horizons before winning a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize. His collaborator is composer and co-book writer Anna K. Jacobs, who wrote in an essay about Teeth off Broadway, “The more I composed for Dawn, the more I embodied her, and the more I embodied her, the more I was flooded with icky, uncomfortable memories: memories of feeling revolted by the way my body took on puberty, like I’d somehow followed a recipe wrong.”

Directed by Obie Award winner Sarah Benson and choreographed by Princess Grace Award winner Raja Feather Kelly, Teeth is a thrilling and ferociously funny musical. Tickets to Teeth in New York are available now.
