Aubrey Plaza, best known for Parks & Recreation and The White Lotus, makes her professional stage debut in Danny and the Deep Blue Sea off Broadway in fall 2023.
Aubrey Christina Plaza was born June 26, 1984 in Wilmington, Delaware. While in school, she participated in theatrical productions with the Wilmington Drama League and went on to study film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2006.
Plaza began her career in comedy, performing with institutions including the Upright Citizens Brigade and the Laugh Factory. She transitioned to screen acting with roles in movies like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and in 2009, she landed her breakout role as the deadpan April Ludgate on the sitcom Parks & Recreation. Plaza starred in the show until it ended in 2015, receiving widespread acclaim for her performance.
She gained further prominence in 2016 for starring in the film Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates opposite Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, and Adam Devine, and the TV show Criminal Minds in a recurring role. Plaza ventured into producing with the films The Little Hours and Ingrid Goes West in 2017, both of which she also starred in. Between 2020 and 2022, Plaza produced and starred in two more films, Black Bear and Emily the Criminal; in between, she starred in the holiday rom-com Happiest Season.
In 2022, Plaza starred as the lawyer Harper Spiller in the second season of The White Lotus, earning Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations. A year later, she is now starring as Roberta in the latest Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley's romantic drama Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, opposite Girls's Christopher Abbott as Danny.
