Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in King Lear off Broadway at The Shed from October 26 to December 15, 2024.
Branagh is known as a premier interpreter of Shakespeare, directing and performing in film adaptations of Henry V (two Oscar nominations), Hamlet (Oscar nomination), Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, and As You Like It. He was also Oscar-nominated for playing Laurence Olivier in My Week with Marilyn and creating the semi-autobiographical film Belfast, which won Best Original Screenplay.
Additional film credits include the Agatha Christie adaptations Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice, which he directed and starred in as Hercule Poirot; supporting roles in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer; and the role of Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Branagh also received an Emmy for playing Reinhard Heydrich in Conspiracy and Emmy and Golden Globes for playing Franklin D. Roosevelt in Warm Springs.
He has also appeared in 19 stage productions, mostly Shakespeare plays in London's West End.
