Tom Hollander

Thomas Anthony Hollander was born on August 25, 1967 in Bristol, England and is known for his BAFTA Award-winning role as Major Lance Corkoran in The Night Manager on television, as well as his appearances in films such as Pride & Prejudice, Gosford Park, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Hollander was raised in Oxford and attended the Dragon School and Abingdon School and would finally go on to study English at Cambridge University. As a child, he was a member of the National Youth Theatre and Children's Music Theatre (which would later be known as the National Youth Music Theatre), as well as a chief chorister. His first professional foray into the world of acting came at the age of 14, when he was cast to play William Jones in the BBC's film adaptation of John Diamond in 1981. At university, he became a member of the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club, participating in a host of productions such as Cyrano de Bergerac, and became president of The Marlowe Society.

On stage, Hollander came to prominence after winning the Ian Charleson Award in 1992 for his performance as Witwoud in the Lyric Hammersmith's production of The Way of the World. Since then, he has starred in productions at a number of West End and Off-West End venues including the Royal Court productions of Editing Process in 1994 and Mojo (playing the role of Baby) in 1995, the Donmar Warehouse productions of The Threepenny Opera (as Macheath) in 1994 and Hotel in Amsterdam in 2003, the Almeida Theatre productions of Tartuffe (in the title role) in 1996 and The Government Inspector (as Khlestakov) in 1997, the National Theatre's production of Landscape with Weapon in 2007, and the Old Vic production of A Flea in Her Ear in 2010. In 1998, he starred on the West End as Lord Alfred Douglas opposite Liam Neeson in The Judas Kiss, which transferred to Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre that same year and marked his Broadway debut.

On screen, Hollander appeared in a number of British TV series during the 1990s, including Absolutely Fabulous, Harry, and Wives and Daughters. During the 2000s, he developed a promising film career, including roles in Gosford Park, Pride & Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Valkyrie, In the Loop, and The Soloist. From 2010 onward, his television career soared to new heights with a BAFTA TV nomination for Gracie (2010) and three nominations for Rev. (2011, 2012 and 2015). He finally won a BAFTA TV Award in 2017 for his portrayal of Major Lance Corkoran in the highly acclaimed series The Night Manager. During this time, he also appeared in TV series such as Taboo, Doctor Thorne, and Any Human Heart, and in films like Hanna, About Time, The Invisible Woman, Muppets Most Wanted, The Riot Club, Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation, and Tulip Fever.

He returned to the London stage in September 2016 to star as Henry Carr in the Menier Chocolate Factory revival of Tom Stoppard's Travesties, which transferred to the West End in February 2017 and led to his first Olivier Award nomination that same year. Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway transfer of the production played the American Airlines Theatre from March 29 through to June 17, 2018 and marked Hollander's first return to the New York stage in almost 20 years.
