How to buy Broadway tickets on New York Theatre Guide
Get a complete overview of the ticket buying process, from choosing your desired show to checking out to managing your order and tickets before the performance.
Seeing a Broadway show is a magical experience, whether you’re a lifelong theatre fan or new to the scene. But before you do that, you need to buy your Broadway tickets!
Luckily, you’ve come to the right place — New York Theatre Guide makes booking official Broadway tickets quick, easy, and reliable. Below, discover everything you need to know about the buying process to make your experience as smooth as possible.
Finding the right Broadway show
The hardest part of buying Broadway tickets is deciding what show — or shows — to see during your trip. You can browse all Broadway shows, Broadway musicals or Broadway plays. Or, go for more specific categories, like the best kid-friendly shows or the top 10 Broadway musicals, including long-running favorites such as Wicked, Hamilton, Chicago, and The Lion King.
For more information about a show that interests you, each show's landing page provides a summary, cast and creative team info, run time, minimum age recommendation, critical and audience reviews, show-related articles, and more.
Picking the date and time
Most Broadway shows are open six days a week, excluding Mondays, with matinee performances on select days in addition to evening shows. Start times of matinee and evening performances may vary slightly between shows.
On our listings pages, you can filter shows by date to see all available performances. "Today" and "This Weekend" filters are also available if you're booking last-minute!
Alternatively, head to your chosen show's page to find its full performance calendar. Click on each date to see the performance times. Many shows have tickets available months in advance, so you can plan ahead and secure your ideal seats before they sell out.
Selecting the best seats
There is no "best" place to sit in a Broadway theatre because it varies from person to person. Check out our guides to the two main theatre seating sections, orchestra and mezzanine, to get an idea of what sitting in either section is like. Orchestra seats are level with the stage, but generally more expensive; mezzanine seats are further back and above, but are often cheaper and provide a sweeping bird's-eye view.
Click into your desired performance via the booking calendar to see the price range for available tickets. New York Theatre Guide color-codes seats by price, so you can see what’s available in your budget. Prices may vary depending on the number of tickets you're purchasing.
On a show's booking calendar, some performance dates may have tags like “Great Prices” or “Selling Fast” to help you snag tickets for the date and price you want. Additionally, keep an eye out for seats labeled “Restricted View.” These are often more affordable, but some areas of the stage may be obstructed.
Checkout and delivery
When you’re confident in your seat choice, simply click on the seats and go to checkout. Here, we’ll need to grab some important information, including your contact details and payment method.
You can also purchase Ticket Protection, which allows you to cancel up to 24 hours before showtime and get a voucher for the full value of your order, minus the Ticket Protection fee, to be used toward a future purchase.
Most Broadway tickets sold on New York Theatre Guide are delivered via email. You should receive a purchase confirmation email shortly after checkout, but e-tickets are sent 24-48 hours before the performance. The confirmation email will contain further details about when to expect them in your inbox.
Managing your order
Ticket sales are final once you complete your order, unless you have purchased Ticket Protection. If you need to change your contact information, did not receive a confirmation email, or have other concerns, you can visit our Help Center.
There, you can find answers to frequently asked questions, get assistance via our self-serve chatbot, or be transferred to a representative on New York Theatre Guide's customer experience team. Otherwise, you can sit back and relax until it’s time for your show.
Using your tickets
On the day of your performance, all you have to do is pull the tickets up on your phone and present them upon entry to the theatre. If you have more than one ticket in your order, you can scan for everyone in your party at the door.
The last step is to grab some refreshments, check out the merch, and make your way to your seats to enjoy the show!
Purchasing Off-Broadway tickets
New York Theatre Guide is also your one-stop shop for Off-Broadway tickets and information, and you can follow the same process as above to find the perfect show for you. Browse our Off-Broadway tickets page to get started!
