Julie Halston to receive honorary Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award
The Broadway actress has raised funding and awareness for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Ahead of the 2020 Tony Awards, it has been announced that Julie Halston will be awarded the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award. Halston will receive the award for her continued work and advocacy for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. The Isabelle Stevenson Award is presented to a member in the Broadway theatre community that has contributed to a charitable organization. Julie Halston has raised awareness and funding for Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, after her husband and friends have passed away from the illness. Following these diagnoses, Halston founded Broadway Belts for PFF, as well as interviewing Broadway actors on her talk show, Virtual Halston.
Speaking about her award, Halston said: ""It is with the deepest appreciation that I wish to thank both The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing for this incredible honor. I am so grateful to be a part of the extraordinary Broadway community and I am profoundly indebted to them for their support of my advocacy on behalf of patients struggling with pulmonary fibrosis. I am so genuinely humbled and sincerely touched by this recognition."
Julie Halston is a Broadway actress whose credits include Tootsie, You Can't Take It With You, On The Town and Anything Goes. She will soon star in Fairycakes alongside Ann Harada and Jackie Hoffman, and Fairycakes tickets are on sale now.
The 2020 Tony Awards will take place on September 26. Graciela Daniele will also receive the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. Broadway shows currently nominated include Jagged Little Pill, Tina - The Tina Turner Musical and Moulin Rouge: The Musical.
