2023 Tony Award winners announced
Kimberly Akimbo was the most awarded show of the night, taking home five prizes including Best Musical, with Leopoldstadt and Some Like It Hot tied with four.
The 2023 Tony Awards are proceeding in a modified format, with no scripted content, amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. However, one thing remains the same: the awards presentations. At this year's awards, prizes went to the best of Broadway in the 2022-23 season.
Kimberly Akimbo, the new musical based on David Lindsay-Abaire's same-named play, won the most prizes of the night with five, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Original Score. Two of its stars, Bonnie Milligan and Victoria Clark, also took home awards.
Tied for second with four wins each are Best Musical nominee Some Like It Hot and Best Play winner Leopoldstadt, which made playwright Tom Stoppard the most awarded writer in Tonys history. He now has five Best Play awards; he was previously tied with Terrence McNally, who had four total Best Play and Best Book awards.

Ariana DeBose hosted the Tonys, broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ from 8-11 p.m., for the second year in a row. Julianne Hough and Skylar Astin hosted the pre-show, The Tony Awards: Act One, from 6:30-8 p.m., during which the first round of award winners, including the special awards and multiple competitive awards, was announced.
Multiple special Tony honors were awarded. Actor/director Joel Grey and composer John Kander received a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. Jerry Mitchell received the 2023 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award for theatre artists who do extensive charitable or humanitarian work, in recognition of his work with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and others.
California's Pasadena Playhouse received the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award. Production stage manager Lisa Dawn Cave, Theatre Development Fund executive director Victoria Bailey, and theatrical accountant Robert Fried each received a 2023 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre prize, given annually to organizations or people who have made outstanding contributions to the theatre.
The competitive Tony Award winners, denoted in bold and with an asterisk, will continue to be updated below as they are announced.
